Alright, so I couldn’t get ahold of the fundraising presale list until this morning, so you had all morning to buy tickets too! We did the presale drawing, and the individual that will get to be up front and center in the Dr. Awkward music video ‘Next Friday’ will be:
LARRY FINE!!!
It’s no wonder that he won this presale raffle, as he donated $60!!! That gives him 11 tickets to put toward Raffle A or Raffle B during Nerdapalooza!!! Congratulations, and we’ll see you at the Pre-Party on Friday night!
Remeber: If you bought raffle tickets online, YOU MUST COME PICK UP YOUR TICKETS BEFORE SUNDAY AT THE LUNCH BREAK AND CHOOSE A RAFFLE TO ENTER!!!
YOU MUST ALSO BE AT NERDAPALOOZA DURING THE RAFFLE DRAWING SUNDAY DURING THE LUNCH BREAK IN ORDER TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE IF YOUR NAME IS DRAWN!
Alright, well the GeekPeekPost is heading off to the airport for our flight! We’ll be seeing you on the other side, internet world! Just look for the camera, microphone, and the girl with the cowboy boots!
geekpeekpost | July 8, 2010, at 6:30 pm
If one thing is certain, it’s that this raffle goes through COUNTLESS changes!
As you know, the following was offered as a prize for Raffle A:

Due to forces beyond the GeekPeekPost’s control, the music video can only be filmed on Friday, after the post-pre-party after party…party…thing. So here’s what we’re going to do: This prize will be taken off Raffle A, and…
A drawing will be be done on Wednesday evening at 11:59pm.
The drawing will include the names of everyone who donated online BEFORE Nerdapalooza 2010.
The number of tickets in this pre-Nerdapalooza drawing willl reflect the donated amount according to the online special pricing.
(If you bought $10 in tickets, you get 1 ticket. $15 gets your 2. $20 gets you 3, and so on.)
THOSE TICKETS WILL STILL BE ENTERED IN THE RAFFLE A AND RAFFLE B DRAWINGS ON SUNDAY.
YOU WILL NOT LOSE ANY TICKETS TOWARD THE MAIN RAFFLES. THIS IS A BONUS TO DONATING EARLY!
The winner will be announced on the GeekPeekPost immediately following the drawing.
In order to redeem this prize, you must be in Orlando on Friday the 16th!
A fantastic way to make sure you, as the winner, are able to amke it to this video shoot is to ATTEND THE NERDAPALOOZA PRE-PARTY, where you will see acts like KABUTO THE PYTHON, MC COOL WHIP, Whoremoans, MagiTek, and other amazing artists!
If you don’t have an idea how to get to the location of the video shoot, you can contact the GeekPeekPost team AT the pre-party, or email acelowtech at gmail dot com. But come on, you guys are nerds, you can figure out a way!
Sorry we have to do this, and we apologize for any complications this sudden and last-minute change may create for you!
Here’s a reminder of how awesome the prizes for the raffle are:

Well, that’s it for now! Make sure to tune in all day next Thursday for the drawing of the pre-Nerdapalooza prize!
Donate by Wednesday at 11:59pm in order to get a shot at being front and center in a Dr. Awkward music video for “Next Friday”!!!
$10 for your first ticket, $5 every ticket after! (Follow the link above!)

RAFFLE CONTEST CHANGES?
In an effort to keep this raffle more organized, instead of the two-day raffle (Rafflle A on Saturday and Raffle B on Sunday) we are going to have BOTH DRAWINGS DURING LUNCH ON SUNDAY!
What does this mean? In order to collect your prize, should you win the raffle, YOU MUST BE PRESENT AT THE TIME OF THE DRAWING! If you are not, we WILL skip over your name and immediately draw again!
The drawing will be on stage, Sunday
Between 3:45pm – 4:25pm
BE THERE!
DONATE YOUR TIME FOR TICKETS
The Nerdapalooza final schedule is out! You’re probably planning which artists you’re going to see, and which acts you plan on napping through. Instead of taking a break from all the action, I’ve got an idea for you:
VOLUNTEER!
So you know how we have this fundraiser raffle going on, right? It’s only mentioned a couple times on our site. Well, if you are going to Nerdapalooza, but don’t have the cash to spare for raffle tickets, you can donate your TIME!!!
We’re looking for some awesome volunteers who can spend some time at our raffle table selling raffle tickets! The GeekPeekPost is planning big things for this blogsite, and in order for us to bring awesome geeky news to the world, we need to be able to move around Nerdapalooza 2010!
What are the perks of volunteering?
Every 30 minutes you spend volunteering at the raffle table will award you one free raffle ticket to be handed out by the raffle staff. ( 30 minutes is like 1/50th of the total Nerdapalooza time – give or take – so you won’t be missing too much, and you’ll be helping out a LOT!)
There also may be an opportunity for free ‘refreshments’.
By volunteering your time to help out, you’re helping out the GeekPeekPost, Game Music 4 All, Dr. Awkward, and nerd-kind in general! So if you’re interested in volunteering to sell raffle tickets, check the Nerdapalooza Final Schedule and e-mail/contact Lo Tech (you know where to find me) or just e-mail contact at geekpeekpost dot com. The volunteer schedule will be on a 1st come, 1st serve basis, so make sure to request your time ASAP!
We will keep updating the schedule below with every new volunteer, so you know which times are taken. If you decide you wish to volunteer AT Nerdapalooza, come on up to our table and sign up for a time! (Remember, this fundraiser is controlled by the GeekPeekPost and Game Music 4 All. Do NOT bother the Nerdapalooza staff about any issues pertaining to the raffle contest. They’ll get mad. You wouldn’t like Hex when he’s angry.)

ONE MORE AWESOME PRIZE!!!!
So, I know we have a LOT of prizes already in both Raffles, but we received a new donation that we just couldn’t put in either one!!! The kick-ass prize is waaaay too valuable!
Snowy, an individual most known for his large, online nerdcore music archive (and a great guy I met over a year ago in the Nerdcore Hip Hop stickam chatroom!), has decided to donate the following item:

An external hard drive containing a giant, 90 GB+ Nerdcore Music Archive.
(500 GB, USB powered, autographed by several notable artists)
That’s freakin right! Now, I have no idea which artists are featured in this archive, but knowing Snowy, you will NOT be disappointed! This prize will have you jammin to your favorite nerdcore and geek rap songs long after Nerdapalooza 2010 ends! (Plus, you get a FREE external hard drive!)
So how can you win this amazing new prize?!
We all know that you can put however many tickets into whichever Raffle you’d like, right? Well, after the drawings on Sunday, we will dump all of the remaining tickets from BOTH Raffle A and Raffle B into the same pot., and then draw the winner of this external hard drive!
Technically, with 3 tickets, and at least 1 in each raffle, you could win EVERYTHING! (We’d call hax, of course…)
(With the gain of that prize, we feel a little better announcing the loss of two other ones: the DJ Hero Demos will be taken out of both raffles.)
Alright, that’s all for now! Remember, buy raffle tickets, support Dr. Awkward having a place to stay at Nerdapalooza 2010, and we’ll be seeing y’all soon!!!
geekpeekpost | June 19, 2010, at 10:20 pm
…or maybe that’s just the scent of raising funds!!!!
This brings up the all-important message of the day:
GET DR. AWKWARD TO NERDAPALOOZA!!!!
Yes, Dr. Awkward is confirmed to perform his own set at Nerdapalooza; however, we are still in need of the funds to get him there! We have incredibly high hopes we will make the amount before the event, but we still need your help!!!! We will post an updated meter to judge the progress of our funds every Saturday, so help us reach our goal!
I know it seems like a very low amount, considering Nerdapalooza 2010 is less than one month away, but all it will take is YOU buying raffle tickets!
With $100s of prizes involved, and only 40% of the funds raised, YOUR chances are GREAT for winning BIG!!!
(Think about it, the more tickets you buy, the higher your chances are of winning cash and prizes! It’s MATH!)
To help motivate you, the geeky masses, we are adding even MORE prizes to the raffle contest!
It seems that all the nerdy artists out there are lending a hand! This past Wednesday, I managed to catch up with YTCracker and MC Lars at Emo’s club in Austin (part of the MC Chris tour).
YTC was VERY generous in donating 3 albums (one signed by both YTC and Lars) and both a womens shirt and another t-shirt in the hopes that we can raise the funds to ensure Dr. Awkward’s presence at Nerdapalooza!
Along with YTC and Lars’ addition, Funky49, a FL-based rapper, has included two copies of his Starblazer album! (Very generous, esp after all of the donations from last year!)
In order to keep all of the fundraising up to date, here are the latest prize posters for the two raffle contests:

So come on, buy some raffle tickets, and help us help nerds and nerdy music grow! Remember:

If there’s something I love about geeks and nerds, it’s that they often band together in a community effort to help their fellow geeks and nerds! The effort to get artists to Nerdapalooza 2010 is no different!
Get ____ to Nerdapalooza Fundraising Raffle Contest
This raffle contest is geared toward selecting an artist who lacks the necessary funds and support to make his/her way to Orlando, Florida for Nerdapalooza. This year, the fundraising team of Genoboost (of Game Music 4 All and GM4A Records) and Ace “Lo Tech” (newly appointed Editor-in-Chief of the GeekPeekPost!) have chosen to award the following artist with their efforts:
 Dr. Awkward
That’s right, everyone! We’ve gotten many suggestions and have heard many disgruntled Dr. Awkward fans and friends wish and hope there would be some way to get Dr. Awkward to Nerdapalooza 2010. So here it is, the support from “Get ____ to Nerdapalooza”!
“Why should we donate to the raffle?”
Well, I’m glad you asked, because there are a couple reasons:
1. Dr. Awkward has made an incredible leap into the eyes and ears of the nerdy hip hop community, and his album Unlimited is most definitely a show of his amazing talent! Supporting this fundraiser would mean you get to contribute directly to bumping Dr. Awkward (and Scrub Club Records) further into geek fame!
2. PRIZES! PRIZES! This year, we’ve gotten SO many merchandise donations from countless contributors! MC Frontalot, Schaffer the Darklord, Marc with a C, Devo Spice, Benjamin Bear, MC COOL WHIP, KRHYME574R0N3 (of NerdcoreHipHop.com and First Degree Productions), and many other artists with plans to donate!
Did we mention included in each raffle (there are TWO!) is:
A $100 Visa Gift Card!!!

With so many amazing prizes, and the fact that you will truly be helping bring an amazing and crowd-pleasing artist to Nerdapalooza 2010, how can you NOT purchase a raffle ticket?!
Tickets are available at $10 online.
As an ONLINE SPECIAL, if you purchase your first $10 raffle ticket, every $5 donation after will award you another ticket! ONLINE SPECIAL ONLY!
So head on over and check out the raffle contest fundraiser!

Well, the GeekPeekPost has been SLACKING on the updates. We are way too new to get away with that! This issue is going to deal with geeky TV entertainment!
Science Fiction just happens to be one of my favorite genres of TV shows and movies. So it was easy to fall into the channel SyFy when I was younger (or SciFi as it was back then). I remember watching Stargate SG-1 in all of its glory! O’Neal was the sassy leader who should have been killed multiple times by countless alien races. And of course we can’t forget the amazing GroundHog Day episode, where they were caught in a time loop. Hitting golf balls into the stargate? Yes, please!
SyFy has been given a reputation of presenting horribly low-budget movies with less-than believable animated monsters. But even though I knew it would look unrealistic, I still sat through Mega Piranha. Truth is, SyFy is coming out with tons of TV shows and movies that are just plain interesting. So take a look at our GeekPeek Critiques, and make sure to keep an eye on SyFy.
Stargate Universe
After Stargate SG-1, and the semi-interesting Stargate Atlantis, I was hesitant at first to watch the next version of worm-hole exploration. I think the Season premiere started off pretty slowly, but as I keep watching, I am starting to fall in love with the characters. Dr. Rush, the main scientist, is the devious genius who has shown several times that he will sacrifice others’ safety for his own motivations. Leading the military you have Colonel Young. He’s a harsh leader, and not the witty comical type like O’Neal, but he manages to keep things under control even through the mutiny episode. Eli, some kid thrown into the mix after unraveling a code in a computer game, acts as a sort of intern under Dr. Rush. Chloe is just there, as another civilian and Eli’s dream-girl. Then you have Lt. Scott, Chloe’s once-lover and a bunch of other characters all playing into the show. At times, it seems there are too many characters and not enough individual developement, but as the season goes on, we get glimpes into each of their lives. It’s a tale of space travel, desolation, and teamwork between military and civilians. Will they ever make it back to earth?
Merlin
Who doesn’t enjoy historical fiction?!After being cancelled on NBC, SyFy took it upon itself to continue the series! This show tracks the life of Merlin, a young magic-user who comes to study under the royal physician, Gaius. However, to throw a twist on the tale, magic was banned by King Uther. So now Merlin must hide the fact he has magical powers. Merlin and young Arthur cross paths, and over the course of the episodes, they almost seem to be acquaintences. Well, at least they would be if Arthur wasn’t such a douchebag. Merlin ends up using magic several times to save Arthur’s life, and even Camelot. However, he cannot reap the benefits of heroism because he must hide the fact he can do magic at all. Oh yeah, Guinevere and even Morgana are in the show. In the more recent episodes, Morgana even discovers she has magic. But we won’t give away any spoilers on how that all turned out. Overall, Merlin is a fantastic and curious take on the Arthur Legend, and I’d urge you to check it out.
Well, those are the GeekPeek Critiques of the Week! Make sure to catch all the amazing shows on SyFy, because Science Fiction rules.

So, here goes another lovely update from the kind folk here at the GeekPeekPost!
First off, I caught wind of a terrible tragedy! The World’s Largest Stack of Cards had fallen! Apparently, 6 weeks of hard labor and probable card-stock-paper cuts came crashing down in mere seconds! Check it out.
Updates:
Nerdapalooza: Well, the big announcement has happened!
Venue: Orlando Airport Marriott, in the Grand Ballroom (a location 5 times larger than last year’s venue). At $89 a night for a basic two-bedroom room, and a close proximity to the airport, it seems like a wise choice for a venue!
Dates: July 17th and 18th, 2010. Yeah, the date change kind of caught us off guard, and sadly, this means that Dual Core, a much loved artist, cannot perform. But it does give people extra time to save up funds!
Cost: $30 weekend, $20 daypass. Not bad at all!
So keep an eye on the official Nerdapalooza blog in order to stay up to date on all things Nerdapalooza related!
GeekPeek Critiques:
Movie Review
Clash of the Titans: So, a few good movies have come out this Spring. One that really captured my attention was the movie Clash of the Titans. Now, after the Percy Jackson and the Olympians movie, I was a little concerned about the mythology angle. However, as “Percy Jackson” was intended for a younger audience, Clash aimed at the older crowd. As a remake, I think it did alright, even tossing in a cameo of Bubo, the mechanical owl from the 1981 movie! The mythical beasts were fascinating, and the kraken was an astounding sight. Although there were a couple cheesy one-liners, and the script wasn’t amazingly spot-on, the story, for the most part, was entertaining. Clash was a fun movie to sit through, and the fight scenes were definitely action-packed. I’d recommend the movie to any mythology fans!
Comic Review
Turbulence: At the GeekPeekPost, we’re always looking for budding geek talent. We were recently let in on this little comic gem: Turbulence. It is a collaboration effort between a couple different talents, all put together by writer Chris Garrett. From the words of the author himself:
Turbulence is the story of what happens when super powers aren’t given at random by a genetic defect, or vat of toxic waste.
They are given to those that earn them.
Turbulence is a hero finally getting used to his powers, but when there are so many teams already established it’s tough to find your spotlight.
It’s a fresh look at the world of superpowers, and the artwork is unique enough to be interesting. So far, one issue, released December 2009, has been published, showing us the beginnings of a very young, very brash superhero.
If you’re interested, head on over to the Turbulence Comic website and show some support! Although the basic information is on the site, we would like to see some more information regarding the minds behind the comic! Updates, updates, updates! Let us know when the next Issue will be released!
Well, that’s all for now! Feel free to Tweet about the GeekPeekPost, or add your comments! If you have any interesting comics, artists, books or movies you’d like us to talk about, feel free to email us!

If there is one thing that amazes me, it’s an artist who can spit bars on point AND sing with a smooth, rich tone. Dr. Awkward, a Scrub Club Records signed nerdcore hip hop artist is a great example of such talent.

His first album, the “Next Gen” EP, astounded us in early 2009. One track in particular, “Geekuilibrium”, has been referred to (at least by us) as the 2009 Geek Anthem. Doc Awk, a Cali rapper, has a fun, entertaining presence both on stage and through his music. It was no surprise how many fans were in wait for his full-length album “Unlimited”, which was just released yesterday:
Dr. Awkward’s Website
The album offers a variety of beats and hip hop/r&b styles, the title “Unlimited” a nice fit. Doc Awk has performed live on several occasions, even gracing the stage with other members of Scrub Club at Nerdapalooza 2009. Houston, Texas welcomed Dr. Awkward as he performed at the Joystix Arcade after Comicpalooza 2010 (an event which MC Router also performed at).
What’s next for the Dr.? Well, everyone would LOVE to see a performance at Nerdapalooza 2010, I’m sure. But so far, the next biggest step will be at Gen Con 2010 in Indianapolis this coming August. The “Nerdcore Entertainment Showcase” will also include other Scrub Club artists like Deafinition, King Pheenix, MadHatter and ZeaLouS1….as well as an appearance by the ninja hip hop group Krondor Krew.
So good luck Dr. Awkward, and congratulations on a GREAT album release. We look forward to more talent from both you and the rest of Scrub Club Records!

A New/Old Dr. Horrible:
Everyone by now should be familiar with Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, the genius musical work of Joss Whedon, starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day. Well, Doctor Octoroc has brought to the world a new – well, old – take on the musical: Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Game, an 8-bit, nintendo-inspired game version of the real thing!
We’re more than impressed by this concept and the actual outcome. This SHOULD be an actual NES game! For those of us with the old systems, I can imagine the demand for such a thing!

Nerdapalooza Update:
So, Nerdapalooza 2010 is drawing closer and closer! The date? June 26th and 27th, 2010! I can hardly contain my excitemnet! I know there are fans everywhere who were concerned due to the lack of updates about Nerdapalooza, but there is an artist confirmation page located on the Nerdapalooza website, so head on over and view some of the artists who are scheduled to perform: Click me!
Along with the updates on the concert, Nerdapalooza is also revealing a new money-making strategy. DONATIONS! Nerdapalooza is known for providing a stage for Nerdcore music, and raising money for Child’s Play (a charity for Children’s Hospitals), but in order to keep up the great work, Nerdpalooza has developed a donation project. What I enjoy most is the “Final Boss Club”. Although a hefty donation of $350 is required, it is implied that the benefits will outweigh the costs: A lifetime of admission to Nerdapalooza events as well as nifty merchandise and a secret “prize” at each Nerdapalooza! Of course, it would be a whole lot more appealing if the benefits were more clearly drawn out for us! *hint hint*
Finally, on the Nerdapalooza front, Hex, the master of all things Nerdapalooza, had this to say on Twitter today:
